MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
Nearby attractions include Lake Como, Lake Garda, the mountain town of San Pellagrino. Our town has several Romanesque churches of interest, and nice restaurants withing driving distance.
The nearest large town is Bergamo, easily accessed by bus. Bergamo has a beautiful art museum, including a beautiful collection of Moroni portraits.

“Plein air painting requires a different approach than painting interior scenes, due to the changing weather and moving sun. So the plein air class will be more direct painting. To achieve that goal, I will advise participants to do a series of smaller paintings, alla prima, and at the same time work on one or two pieces which have multiple layers applied returning at the same of time of day. I will share how I work when I have a short time to capture a landscape, as well as discussing how to work on a piece over the course of several days.”
COURSE
In the Russian academic system, artists traveled every summer to spend blissful weeks observing the behavior of light in nature. It is still considered the most important technical and spiritual practice of the serious realist, along with painting from a live model. Akhriev maintains a plein air practice, and enjoys sharing what he has learned as the best tools towards success. He will teach by demonstrating his method, and then coach the painters through their pieces as they progress.
Class takes place M-F from 9:00-1:00 in the garden, vineyards and village. Classes will begin promptly.
-From 1:15 until 2:30 the estate’s restaurant serves lunch.
-Every afternoon Akhriev will paint somewhere on the estate, and participants are welcome to paint nearby, observe and ask questions, or have independent activities.
-Several times during the course the participants will gather together to talk about progress and see one another’s work.
-Participants are welcome to ask advice about works from outside class.
-At 7:30 every evening dinner will be served in the restaurant.

All meals provided: either catered in the villa, at the estate’s restaurant in a former monastery, or in a village cafe. Wine from the estate is included at lunch and dinner.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The minimum age for participants is 18 yrs.
The rooms of the 17th C villa are on the third floor. Basic physical fitness to climb stairs with your luggage is obligatory.
Participants need to bring all art materials not listed as “provided.” For example, easels are not provided.
Meals are provided, but require a short walk of about two blocks through the vineyards.
Room Selection will be granted based on the order of enrollment.
The bathrooms are shared, four bathrooms total for ten students. Three are on the sleeping level.
There is slow wifi in the villa.
Two washing machines are provided. Clothes are hung to air-dry in a designated room.
Airport transfers must be organized with Efram (who owns a private taxi company) or under one’s own power.
The villa has a dog.
